It’s Poetry Season: End of the Year Highschool Poetry Contests!

Are you looking forward to showcasing your poetry that you’ve created over the 2025 year?There are many end of the year contests opening whether they are prestigious or local, and for any student who shows interest and dedication in literature.

Instead of letting your poetry rot, it’s time to display your talent through youth targeted programs that promote creativity and personal voice.

Here are just a few:

Scholastic Writing Competition

Scholastics is one of the longest running and most prestigious art & writing contests for high school students ever. They recognize students for their personal emerging voice & excellence in structure.

Students first begin by submitting regionally, being able to win Gold Keys, Silver Keys and Honorable Mentions for a portfolio or piece. Then, if you revive a Gold Key, you automatically are taken to nationals where you can win the highest honors in writing, meet the best in your discipline and showcase you work in museums.

Then Scholastics competition charges 30$ for a portfolio and 10$ per submission with abilities to wavier these fees if they are a barrier the student. Writing deadline is December 20, 2025.

Patricia Grodd Poetry Prize for Young Writers

The Patricia Grodd Poetry Prize is an annual contest run by The Keyon Review, established in 2007 to honor Patricia Grodd who is a longtime benefactor of the review journal. This competition is targeted towards dedicated sophomores and juniors in high school.

Winners get a full scholarship to attend The Keyon Review Young Writers Workshop and get to be published onto their journal. There is not entry fee. Competition open November 1st and closes on the 30th.

Leonard L. Milberg 53’ High School Poetry Prize

This poetry prize contest run by the Lewis Center for Arts and the Creative Writing program at Princeton University is annual and design for high school juniors all across the globe. It also caters toward private, home school and charter students.

You an win prizes up to 1,500$, with there also being honorable mentions. Students submit 3 separate that can be previously published or simultaneously submitted with no fee to enter! The deadline is usually end of October to mid November!

Students who have been waiting to submit their amazing work, now is the time to do so!
